PrinterOn Server for Mobile Devices Now Supports Printing From Any Wireless Pocket PC Enterprise Server Unifies Desktop, Server, and Email Printing Technologies
by Anonymous

Kitchener, ON – October 8, 2002: PrinterOn Corporation, a Web services company specializing in wireless and remote Internet printing, has extended to Pocket PC devices the functionality of its Envoy enterprise server to include a Web interface for secure printing and faxing.
Envoy is an attachment-handling server that allows users to view, fax, and print email attachments using an email interface for connected mobile devices such as BlackBerryTM and the Palm OS ®. With the new release that supports a secure Web interface (HTTPS), users can obtain hard copy of email, attachments, Web pages, and files stored on the Pocket PC device.

Envoy is targeted at businesses that wish to make their mobile workforce more productive by enabling them to obtain hard copy of documents, email, attachments or Web pages from their handhelds while out of the office. Envoy's support for the Pocket PC is ideal for sales force automation, order entry on the road, and the frequent traveler.

Key features of the server include multiple output options, the ability to search for printers on demand regardless of location, and the advantage of having one corporate server solution for multiple PDA devices and wireless network technologies. Printing capabilities include support for printing to corporate printers, home printers, or public venue printers in hotels, convention centers, and print centers. Envoy supports all wireless connection technologies including 802.11b, Mobitex, GPRS, 1xRTT and IP over Bluetooth. Transactions are secure, using SSL for use over public networks without a VPN connection.

The Envoy server is also designed to provide the advantages of distributed Internet fax deployment, allowing users to make use of fax delivery services when a printer is not available. PrinterOn provides two options for Envoy users requiring fax services: an Internet hosted fax solution, and an integration between Envoy and Microsoft Fax Services or Captaris RightFax.

Envoy is available as an enterprise solution, for companies that prefer to host their own wireless services. A Web-hosted solution by PrinterOn is available for small business or home and remote offices. Envoy is also available as a carrier solution, which includes integration to billing, provisioning, and activity reporting.

The server is complemented by PrinterOn's PocketWhereTM for Pocket PC, a client application that provides the user with a simple interface. Users have a window into their email accounts for selection of email or email attachments and are able to browse the Web on the Pocket PC device and automatically print the Web pages or enter a favorite Web page for output. Users can also select and print any file saved on the Pocket PC including custom reports, standard forms, or any of the over 100 different file types supported by PrinterOn. Printer searching is real-time, with no complex printer names, pre-configuration of printers or drivers. The result is handheld printing as easy to use as desktop printing with presentation quality output, including color.

For the corporate IT manager, PrinterOn's complete enterprise printing solutions have the potential to lower costs by simplifying the management of corporate printing assets and reducing the number of help desk calls related to output issues. They can mix and match support for Web-based driverless printing, Windows desktop printing with a print driver, email-based printing for wireless PDAs, or printing from a Pocket PC handheld computer.

PrinterOn Envoy is available in October 2002. The Envoy server software can be downloaded from the PrinterOn Web site. Service Plan fees start at $30 per person per year with a 5-user plan. User trials are available at http://www.printeron.net/solutions/free.html.
